Severe Weather

Information and advice to parents/carers

We recognise that it is important that our school remains open so that parents are able to work and pupils can continue to learn and we will make every effort to prepare for severe weather e.g. gritting pathways and clearing access points. Please note that although we will endeavour to clear paths and access points, we cannot guarantee that the roads leading into Cob Drive will be clear and safe.

However, if we do experience severe snow/ice resulting in hazardous conditions, we may have to take the decision to close the school. Once this decision has been made we will aim to post messages on our website by 7:30am, or as soon after as possible. We will update our website regularly to keep parents and pupils informed about our arrangements. We will also notify parents via the Kent Closures website and by email and text via Parentmail.

Within minutes of the school posting information on the Kent Closures website, Kent radio stations will use this information to broadcast closures over the radio. Tune in to:

                BBC Radio Kent           96.7/104.2 fm

                KMFM                           96.2/101.6 fm

                Heart FM                     103.1/102.8 fm

The Kent Closures website can also be used to find out if other services in Kent are open or closed, such as nurseries, children’s centres and libraries. Even if the school is open, you may decide at the start of the day that the journey into school is not safe for your child. Please can you phone the school to report the absence in the usual way.

The school will try to remain open whenever possible. We will only close on health and safety grounds, e.g. no heating, no running water, it is not safe for staff and pupils to be onsite.

What can you do to help?

  • Please check our website and the Kent closures website
  • Please provide a packed lunch from home in case school meals cannot be transported
  • Please send you child to school in suitable clothing – warm coat, gloves, hat, scarf, wellies – even a change of clothing.

Many thanks for your support
